About the Bake-off

What’s it all about?

Inspired by a love of great bakes (and Mary Berry, of course), I have set about to bring a bake-off style event to Oxfordshire and use it as an opportunity to raise some much-needed funds for four charities which put women at the centre of their amazing work… these are Oxfam, Coppa Feel, Oxford Rape Crisis and Cecily’s Fund.

How will the bake-off work you say? Well….

1. You enter: You will need to pre register by filling out an application form, which can be requested by emailing oxfordbakeoff@gmail.com from 1st February. You can enter up to 2 of the 7 categories. Closing date for entry is Tuesday March 20th 2012.

Entry will cost £5. The full amount will go to the charities.

2. You practice, practice, practice and then you bake your final entry. You must follow the exact instructions on the application form, else you risk being disqualified. You will not win if you turn up with a 6ft Cupcake, however beautifully it is decorated and tastes.

3. You bring your entry along on the day to the venue between 9:30am and 10:30am. You will be given your bake-off pack once you have paid your £5, which will include your entrant’s number. Then you display it however you like on the correct table by 11am at the latest. Any later and your entry won’t be judged.

4. Between 11am and 1pm the expert judges will stuff their faces with your bakes, make some tough decisions and pick the creme de la creme of the bakes! Then the winners will be announced. You may win, tra la la la and jump for joy (unless you don’t win, in which case you jump for joy anyway, because you had so much fun!)

5. Enjoy the day: peruse the stalls, take part in a workshop! If you are happy for us to put your bakes up for sale after the winner’s have been announced all cakes will be up for grabs and the Bake Off Sale will begin!

So please do take part. It promises to be fabulously fun and also to raise some money for great causes. Who can say fairer than that?

Big baking love!
